MINUTES OF A JOINT MEETING OF SUSTAINABLE PENWITH AND PENWITH ENVIRONMENTAL NETWORK HELD ON 21 FEBRUARY 2005 IN COMMITTEE ROOM 2, PENWITH DISTRICT COUNCIL OFFICES, ST CLARE AT 7.00PM

1 Minutes of the last meeting of Sustainable Penwith.

The minutes of the last meeting were accepted as a true and accurate record.

2 Fair Trade Fortnight 1st-13th

A sub group meeting to be held on Wednesday 23rd at Renaissance Café at 6.30 pm. Justin to contact Archie Browns re: local produce for the event. David to ask Karen Clowes to contact Rob Poole about getting stuff from 'Local Penwith Food' and 'Healthy Boxes' scheme. The Fair Trade shop in Camborne has agreed to stand on the stall and supply marketing materials. There is a need to recruit for schools and colleges. Press release is due to go out to all major newspapers. Raven to put the new press release on SP website. Crystal submitted a press release to the Pendeen Outreach magazine. The Co-op agreed to participate in Fair Trade and will publicise events in their stores (2 in Penzance, 1 in Hayle). Raven to put an alert on the website to ask for help in the Co-op for mornings of the Fair Trade fortnight.

3. Green Fayre 26th March

Alan reported that 34 out of 46 stalls have been booked so far. Michelle to do entertainment / music. Need someone to do children's entertainment. David to talk to Anita Prior (heritage liaison with schools) who might have some ideas on who could come and do childrens entertainment. Crystal to ask "Funny Faces" Delia Webb to come and do face painting, and also to ask 'SkyLarks' if they can volunteer entertainment services. Michelle said Penzambo will play samba music outside on steps. John Burr from Amnesty International to play jazz for half hour, also a glam band will play for half hour. David to ask Poppy Trefrey who organises local music and bands if she has any good ideas for entertainment. Michelle finished two poster ideas, and the group agreed the bunny rabbit one was more appealing than the raptor. All thanked Michelle for her good work. Posters to go up in two weeks time, all printed and sent out as follows: 20 to Alan, 10 to Justin, 10 to Crystal, 20 to Raven, 3 to Pamela, 50 to David, 10 to Michelle. Each person to distribute to their local area. Stephanie to place 2 advertisements in the paper the week before. Stephanie and Mike to do the catering. Justin to do the door. Allan to collect money on day. Mike to provide float to Justin. Money to be split 3 ways: SP, FOE and PEN. Stephanie to contact Monique Schneider at FOE to make sure they agree to this. Allan needs 6 volunteer stewards and 1 female for safety on the day. Allan received £10 donation from "Compassion in World Farming" given to Mike treasurer for PEN. Allan has invited all political parties to attend but not to do a stand (needs to be politically neutral). Matt to ask the Green Party to attend. Matt wants to put electric vehicles outside, Alan to report back on this. Volunteers are needed to wash up and serve food, contact Mike for details. PEN AGM meeting to take place after the Green Fayre at date to be decided. SP to have 2 stalls: one for Matt and Ecodrive (electric cars), and one for main information. Raven to continue working on display. Karen agreed to print and laminate all display materials, and provide 3 panels the week before. Matt to hand over banner and all other SP materials to Raven. SP tri-brochure with membership insert was designed and printed by Raven, and passed around the group for approval to use on the stall. Raven to contact MCTI Sally Newby for material to use on the stall.

4. Community Woodlands

Michelle reported that Millennium woods had built a tree nursery that was trashed by some people, and that BCTV has given £700 to make a sturdier one. They have 200 trees and 200 more coming, and are giving half to Lovelane woodland project, and selling the other half in Penwith for £2 each. Michelle wants to know if anyone in PDC can support this work. Mike Foy (PDC tree person) could donate trees at the Green Fayre since PDC now have 700 trees to give out. Millennium woods need to draw back enough money to keep the nursery going next year. They've planted 200 wildflower plants [50 of 4 types] to see what would grow, before they put in a bid for wildflower grants. Stephanie reported that a meeting took place a week ago to talk about future funding for the Lovelane Project, anyone interested can ask her for the minutes. Tom Jane at PDC to get liveability funding to spend by March 2006. 'Lovelane Meadow Project' will try to tap into this money. There will be a meeting on 8th March at Penwith Centre for this project. A public consultation will take place after the Green Fayre. Funding is available for BCTV training, on 31 March there will be wildflower training at Falmouth Green Centre. Anyone interested contact Stephanie or Tom Jane. Crystal said Andy Tanner is interested in co-operating with woodland projects. Justin to pass over contact details of woman from Newlyn Fish Forum regarding the Newlyn Environmental Network woodland project, to Michelle. Matt reported fruit tree planting will take place at Sancreed on Saturday and Sunday (26 / 27 Feb). Details on website.

5. Website

Raven to seek funding for updating the website from Community Chest. Matt reported that the web hosting was paid for 1 year, and the domain for 2 years.

6. PTAG

David gave an update to the group. 2 brochures have been produced "Boot, Bus and Branchline" to market coastal paths and buses for access to visitor attractions. Posters have been put up around railway lines. West Kerrier to be included. 10 cycle rides are featured around Penwith. Pamela agreed to attend next PTAG meeting on Thursday 3rd March 2.30-4.30 as representative of SP. David reported that CLIC charity walk will take place on 15th May (Lelant to St Michaels Mount) and they are looking for teams or people to participate. Need to raise £100K sponsorship.

7. Bank Account

Raven reported that all forms for the back account with the Co-operative had been received and filled in, but signatures and identification documents were still needed from Michelle and Justin. Both filled in the forms, and agreed to send necessary documents to Raven as soon as possible. Raven received cheque from KDC for £250 and agreed to open the account with this. Justin to get the matching funds from Karen and leave the cheque for Raven at PDC.

Everyone to read Karen's publication and send typos directly to her.

9. Sustainable Communities Summit Update

Karen to give update at next meeting.

10. Events

Raven reported on the new monthly events planned for SP, and called for suggestions on speakers, particularly the first opening speaker. The group agreed to email suggestions for the first monthly speaker to Raven.

11. Any Other Business

Stephanie sent out letters of support to planning regarding Trinity Hall in Newlyn and Pendeen village hall, for PV tiles. Both were approved. Crystal reported on CEP doing free energy efficiency measures in different areas of Penwith, such as "Home Health" project in Hayle. Also doing display of work with 4 schools working with Andy Tanner. Launch of the project on March 19th at Passmore in Hayle (10 - 4pm). Justin reported that there was a CSTN event on local produce in local tourist outlets in Tregenna Castle. Justin to forward minutes to Raven. Matt stated the ecocabins are still open this week for visitors. Ralph Openshaw's Waste Action Network is to canvass 60000 households (10,000 in 6 districts) as part of a recycling project.
